After senior leader Eknath Khadse left the party and joined Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Geeta Jain, a BJP rebellion who fought and won Mira Bhayandar Assembly seat in the last year Maharashtra State polls, officially joined Shiv Sena on Saturday in the presence of party chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The joining ceremony took place at Matoshree in Bandra (East). Several other senior Sena leaders including Cabinet and Thane’s Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, MLA Pratap Sarnaik, MP Rajan Vichare and former MLA Gilbert Mendonca among others were also present to welcome Jain in the party. She left her residence at 10:00 am and reached at Matoshree at noon.
The official Twitter handle of Shiv Sena shared pictures of the ceremony and wrote, “MLA Geeta Jain Ji from Mira Bhayandar constituency joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Party President, CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray at Matoshree today.”
In 2002, Jain had joined the Congress Party but won the municipal election as an independent candidate. In 2007, she fought on Congress ticket. However, she had defeated. With some differences with the party leader, she had joined the BJP in 2010 and had served as the Mayor of the MBMC between 2015-17. She played as rebellion in the 2019 assembly elections and contested as an independent candidate after denied the ticket. Jain had won this election. She had defeated BJP’s Narendra Mehta with 15,535 votes.
With former BJP leader and current MLA joining Shiv Sena, Party will definitely get a big credit. However, experts say, Jain, an opportunist and wanted to be with the power always.
Geeta Jain officially announced her joining in Shiv Sena through her Facebook post.
