Politics has been heated up in the political arena of Mira-Bhayandar after the Golden Nest Quarantine Centre rape incident surfaces. Across the party, leaders are seen outrageous against the contractual security services whose employee has blotted the Mira-bhayandar area.
On Monday, the BJP Women Wing sought action against the officials allegedly responsible for the crime against women. Maharashtra’s Bhartiya Janata Party’s Vice President Chitra Wagh and Mayor MBMC Jyotsana Hasnale met MBVV commissioner Sadanand Date and submitted a memorandum.
After meeting Mr Date, she asserted, “There have been at least a dozen such cases at the COVID centres across the state, which include molestation and rape of women.”
“The accused are arrested and that is the end of it. However in such cases, the administrative officials of the centres were also responsible as they faltered on lack of security and safety of the patients and their kin,” she reasoned.
Slamming the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, she curtly remarked, “The MVA praises great women in the state but when it comes to the security and safety of women than they are indifferent.”
What Legislators said
Replying on the Wagh’s comment, Pratap Sarnaik said, “Someone should remind her that, BJP is the ruling party in MBMC. And Quarantine centre’s responsibility is on MBMC. So, she should understand what she is telling.
He met MBMC Commissioner and MVCC Police Commissioner and said, “The bouncers and guards provided by this dubious agency have earned notoriety for crimes like-abuse, assault, extortion and graft. But now the incident of rape is outrageous. I will personally coordinate with the SGB.”
“The MBMC has been showing generosity by offering contracts and illegal extensions to this particular agency. They are on contract from the past 11 years. I have officially written to the civic chief to avail services from SGB,” said MLA Geeta Jain.
However, tossing the same views, Mayor Hasnale said, “The contractor, whose man was an accused in the case, should be immediately terminated. The civic corporation never verifies the contractor and their credentials before their appointments.”
Congress Protest
Congress workers also staged a protest outside the Commissioner’s office at MBMC headquarters with black ribbons. They tied the black ribbons on their head and arms. Party has demanded action against those officials who were working at the quarantine centre when the rape incident took place.
Pramod Samant, Congress Mira Bhayandar President said, “BJP is the ruling party in MBMC. They are responsible for the incident. However, we demand the immediate cancellation of the contract of the Sainik Security.”
Samant alleged that the proprietor of the Sainik Security is the BJP worker.
