Congress Party Group leader demands disqualification of his party’s Corporator Sarah Akram

Congress Party

Zubair Inamdar, Congress Party Group Leader in Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has demanded the disqualification of corporator Sarah Akram, who was ‘deliberately’ absent during the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections, despite the party issued a whip before the poll.

Inamdar has demanded the disqualification of the councilorship of Sarah Akram, who was absent on the Election Day and had not responded over the phone before the mayoral election, hence rebelling against the party.

“She and her husband phones were switched off from February 24. Though the party has issued a whip, Sarah Akram was intentionally absent,” alleged Inamdar.

“It was her rebel nature against the party. On instruction from the party’s seniors, we have given a written complaint to the Konkan Divisional Commission at Konkan Bhavan and asked him to disqualify her as a corporator,” said Zubair Inamdar.

On February 25, Ankush Malasure, President, Mira-Bhayander City/District Congress Committee had filed a formal complaint at the Naya Nagar Police Station alleging that his party’s corporator and her husband were abducted by the BJP leaders.

Similarly, after tasting the defeat by 55-36, Congress leader and Working President of MPCC Muzaffar Hussain had also indicated her expulsion from the party, accusing the BJP of luring her. He said, “She has been declared as rebellion. We will enquire the procedure and will take necessary action against her.”

However, on February 26, the day the Mayor, Deputy Mayor elections were over, she appeared at Naya Nagar Police Station at around 9:30 pm. She denied of any kidnapping theory. In her statement, she had said, “My son’s University convocation was at Aurangabad and myself and husband were present there. I had informed about the event to the senior.”

Tension not new

Ironically, the tension between Congress party corporators Inamdar and Sarah Akram is not new. Earlier, Sarah Akram knocked on the door of Naya Nagar Police Station and registered a formal complaint against Zubair Inamdar over the moving of a tapri near Azizia Masjid.
