MLA Geeta Jain threatens indefinite hunger strike if MBMT bus service not started

Mira Bhayandar Independent MLA and BJP corporator Geeta Jain has threatened that she and her other staff members will go on indefinite hunger strike if her demands for starting the Municipal Transportation bus service not met within a week. Before the press conference, she met MBMC Commissioner and submitted four points’ demands to him.

Jain has written a letter to this effect to the Commissioner Dr Vijay Rathod. “I had discussed with the commissioner on the issue, he assured that he will get the solution within a week,” said Geeta Jain.

As per information, MBMC has issued the notice for the termination of service to the contractor. However, after the period of the notice gets over then also no action has been taken against the Bhagirathi MBMT Pvt Ltd.

“There are some issues between the MBMC and Bhagirathi. The contractor has not paid the employees last six months salaries. However, as the suburban trains are not for local commuters, they are suffering. They have to travel to Borivali, Andheri and other places through roads. It takes one and a half hours to just pass from the Dahisar Check Naka. I’m giving one week time to administration to solve the issue else I will be on indefinite hunger strike,” said Mrs Jain.

She also demanded to terminate the contract and blacklist the contractor. Nevertheless, she admitted that there is political backing to the contractor, without taking anybody’s name.

On Toll Naka

Geeta Jain has taken a U-turn over her manifesto point on Toll Naka. She said, “There are clauses in the contract between the State Government and the Contractor. State government can’t abruptly close the Toll Plaza or buyback with any mean. So, we can’t close the Dahisar Check Naka. However, I asked CM to relocate it to Versova near Fountain Hotels on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.”

She said she has suggested CM refraining citizen of Mira-Bhayandar from paying the Toll either. Apart from that, she said she would also discuss whether other alternatives to Toll Naka could be adopted. “I took an appointment to discuss the matter with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Recently, he recovered from COVID-19, so the meeting is in the pipeline. I had also suggested increasing the cess in petrol price for toll,” said the independent Member of Legislative Assembly.

On 7th Pay Commission

Geeta Jain on Monday asked the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to disburse pending salaries of municipal employees and observed that no employee should be deprived of the joy during the Diwali festival.

“I have been following up with Eknath Shinde and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department to implement the roaster and seventh pay commission to the employees of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation. I am sure that the employees of the MBMC will get the benefit of 7th Pay Commission before this Diwali,” said the first woman MLA of the Mira Bhayandar Assembly.

On School Fees

“Though, Private Schools fees do not come under my jurisdiction or MBMC, then also I asked the commissioner to look into the matter. I asked the MBMC chief to take PTA and school management meeting and solve the issue. As the state government has issued the GR over it, MBMC chief makes sure to strictly implement it,” said Jain.
