Versova Creek Bridge will remain shut for 7 hrs on Thursday

The Versova Creek Bridge located on the Ghodbunder Road –Mumbai Ahmedabad Highway junction near Fountain Hotel will remain shut for inspection for seven hours on Thursday. Commuters and drivers have been asked to plan their journey accordingly on Thursday.

The Traffic movement on the Ahmedabad bound two-lane bridge will remain closed from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The traffic will be diverted to the Mumbai-bound two-lane bridge. There might be a heavy traffic jam on the vicinity and it will affect the Thane bound traffic also from twin city.

Earlier, half of the century-old bridge was repaired by the authorities in May 2017. The authorities will do a structural audit to find out the health of the bridge. However, the Mumbai-bound Bridge will bear the weight of the vehicles on the up and the downside.

Earlier, the Versova Creek Bridge had been partially shut down in November 2018 for maintenance purposes. The creek bridge is known to cut down transport time, making the journey quicker.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has undertaken the construction of a six-lane bridge which will cut down the travel time between Vasai/Virar and Bhayander by around 45 minutes.

Presently, commuters have to take the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway to reach these destinations. However, the work on the bridge parallel to the railway tracks is only expected to be concluded by September 2024.
