A private tuition teacher at Sector 10 of Shanti Nagar in Mira Road has been booked for allegedly asking a nine-year-old student to do “450 sit-ups” for not completing her homework by the Naya Nagar Police Station.
The girl, studying in Standard III, become ill after the incident and had to be admitted to a hospital due to severe pain in the abdominal area and legs.
Before this incident, the private tuition teacher, identified as Lata, resident of Unique Apartment at C-63 in Sector 10 of Shanti Nagar, last month also allegedly stripped the girl and beat her with a cane stick for not doing her homework.
“The teacher asked the girl to do 450 sit-ups as punishment for not doing her homework. When the girl returned home from the tuition classes, her mother saw the child was unable to walk and found swelling in both her legs and abdominal area,” said Sohel Pathan, Police Sub Inspector, Naya Nagar Police Station.
“The girl was rushed to a hospital where she underwent treatment. Her mother filed the police complaint against the teacher,” said Pathan.
In her complaint, she also alleged that the child was stripped and beaten up with a cane stick by the teacher last month. At that time, when the girl’s mother questioned her, the teacher had shown innocence,” the official said.
Based on the complaint, the teacher has been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act-2015. No arrest has been made so far, the official said, adding that a probe is underway in the case.
