Police have no clue of rape accused BJP ex-MLA after four days

SUV seized in which BJP ex-MLA and his aide and co-accused escape

The Mira Road police have no clue about the raped accused BJP ex-MLA and his close aide’s whereabouts. However, police have seized an SUV Toyota Fortuner of a BJP corporator, allegedly in which former legislator escaped with his aide Sanjay Tharthare.

The white Toyota Fortuner with registration number MH04 JJ 5252 owned by a BJP corporator Prashant Dalvi was seized and brought to the Mira Road Police Station. Police were searching for the corporator to track Mehta’s location. However, according to the sources, he was not found then the police called his wife and accused BJP ex-MLA Narendra Mehta’s wife Suman to the police station.

Police asked few questioned and they left for their respective houses. A Dalit BJP corporator has accused Mehta of raping her for 20 years and lodged an FIR against him.  

On Sunday, the woman corporator revisited the police station and registered another complaint. She alleged that she is getting threat calls and pressuring her to set back. However, police have beefed up her security after her complaint.  

Ironically, a video of both the accused went viral on the same day seen alighting from the Dalvi’s SUV. Its video was of Bhairavi Food Court indicating their presence on Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Police confirmed that they have seized the vehicle and searching the owner for further questioning.

Mehta and Tharthare are booked under Sections 376(2)(n)(rape), 496 (illegal marriage), 417 (cheating), 323, 504, 506 of the IPC and also under Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989. 

Thartare was also booked for allegedly threatening the woman against going to police in 2015. Allegedly, he had threatened the woman about Mehta’s friendship with then Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and advised her to settle in Dubai with her child instead.
