Father of Shraddha Walkar, Vikas Walkar met Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police commissioner Madhukar Pandey for the second time and demanded action against the policemen who apparently did not take action against her daughter’s two complaints registered in two different police station against her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala. Shraddha Walkar was allegedly murdered by Aaftab Poonawala, in Delhi’s Mehrauli area in mid of May last year.
Significantly, newly transferred MBVV Chief Madhukar Pandey has responded to the grieving father. He assured strict action against the erring officials. This was the second meeting between the two after Mr Pandey replaced Mr Date as MBVV commissioner.
According to Vikas, Shraddha had filed a complaint with the Tulinj police in 2020 accusing Poonawala of abusing and assaulting her, while he himself had approached the Manikpur police after his daughter went missing last year.
Both police stations of the MBVV did not act on the complaints quickly, he had alleged earlier.
Poonawala allegedly strangled Shraddha and cut her body into 35 pieces. He kept her pieces in a fridge at his residence in Mehrauli in south Delhi in May last year. Then, dumping them one by one across the city over several days. He was arrested in Delhi in November. Delhi Police brought him here for further investigation and launched a search operation at Bhayander Creek for several days.
A DCP from Vasai is carrying out a probe into the allegations of dereliction of duties, said Vikas. He was also apprised of the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) in the case.
Vikas said he was satisfied with the probe done by the Delhi police. Police have demanded maximum punishment for the accused.
