Rape case registered after teenage victim attempts suicide in Bhayandar

Thane Rural Police has arrested a man from Bhayandar for allegedly raping a teenager after luring her on the pretext of marriage. However, the case has been registered after four days of a woman visiting the police station and later attempted suicide. According to her, a lady police officer scolded her and kicked out her from the Bhayandar police station instead of registering the FIR. 

According to the victim, she was raped by the accused Yogesh Chaurasia on July 25, after she eloped with him. The accused has falsely promised her to marry her. However, later she understands that the Chaurasia is already married. The victim has also alleged that the police did not lodge a complaint even after four days of round-ups. The victim has alleged that Manisha Patil, a lady police officer rudely treated her and kicked her out of the police station.

The incident happened in Jai Ambe Nagar, Bhayander West. On Thursday, due to mental agony created by the accused and boost by the Police, the victim tried to commit suicide. She consumed phenyl at home. Currently, she is undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Municipal Hospital at Mira Road. However, her condition is stable and out of danger.

What’s the matter?

The victim and the accused Yogesh Chaurasia have been in a love affair from the past three years. On July 25, accused Yogesh sexually abused her on the pretext of marrying her. On July 26, the accused left the victim near her home. As she reached home, she called Yogesh and asked him about the marriage. The accused gave ambiguous answers as well as abused her. The victim then went to the police station. After learning that she reached the police station, Yogesh called and threatened her.

However, after four days of her attempts to register a sensitive complaint, a lady police officer did not pay any heed to the victim’s pain

The victim visited the police station with her mother. “After my daughter had told the lady officer Manisha Patil about the incident, she advised me to take her to native place. In the last four days, my daughter was so annoyed and went through mental stress,” said the victim’s mother.

“Learning about our visits to the police station, the accused came home and beat her. After that, she consumed phenylephrine to kill herself,” the victim’s mother said.

MLA Geeta Jain met the victim

MLA Geeta Jain visited the hospital where the victim is being treated. She said, “I am in contact with the victim’s mother. Whatever help she needed will be provided to her. I’m in touch with the SP of Thane Rural Police, and he assured that the truth would reveal soon and justice will be served for her.”   

Case registered

Police have registered the case on Friday under sections 376 and 506 of IPC at Bhayandar Police Station. The accused Yogesh Chaurasia has been arrested and produced in court. However, the court has granted police remand till August 04.

“We have registered a complaint against the accused. However, on July 26, the victim’s parent has registered her missing complaint also,” said Dr Shashikant Bhosle, SDPO, Bhayandar Range.      

“We received a complaint about the bad treatment given to the victim at the police station. We are setting up internal enquiring on it. If the officer found guilty, then strict action suggested against her by the SP Dr Rathod,” informed Dr Bhosle.
