Kashimira Police has seized a truck carrying ration grains meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) for sale in the black market. The truck was going towards Gujarat from Mumbai. Police has seized the truck with more than 8.5 tonnes of wheat and rice. It seems police has busted an interstate racket.
Kashimira police has put the barricade and were checking the vehicles at morning 5 am. While inspecting this truck, the police found bags of wheat and rice with the stamps of Government of Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Ek Kadam Swachhta Ki Oor (One step towards cleanliness). Police questioned the driver and cleaner about it. They had not given any satisfactory answer on it.
“Police has taken them into custody after they failed to provide any official documents for the consignment. Investigation revealed that the driver was driving the vehicle without a license. The truck carries 5.5 tonnes of wheat and about 3450 kgs of rice. The ration seized from the truck worth Rs 17, 45,500,” said Sanjay Hazare, Senior PI, Kashimira Police Station.
Police has arrested Salim Mujahid Maulapiya (31, driver) and Shafique Umar Charolia (30, Cleaner). Both of them are residents of Patan district in Gujarat.
Police has booked two others including the truck owner and the Mira Road-based ration grains supplier. They are yet to be arrested.
“Prima Facie it seems that the truck was headed to a godown in Vasai. It seems to be a bigger racket than what meets the eye. All those involved in the scam will be behind the bars soon,” said Hazare.
Police has registered a case number 900/2000 under sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act against the accused. However, Sr.PI Hazare and API Mahendra Bhamre are further probing the case.
