Mira Bhayandar – Vasai Virar Police on Wednesday, claimed to have cracked the ATM cash robbery case after it has arrested three persons including the driver of the van and recovered more than Rs 4 crores from them. On November 12, the driver ran away with the cash while his colleagues were stuffing currency in the ATM at the kiosk in Virar.
The incident happened on November 12, at around 5 pm. However, police have arrested three persons identified as Akshay Prabhakar Mohite (24, driver), Rohit Baban Aru (26) and Babusha Gulab Gaikwad (41). While Mohite stays at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, Aru lives at Nerul in Navi Mumbai. However, Gaikwad stays at Ashti Taluka in Nanded district.
Arnala Coastal Police has registered an offence under section 381 of Indian Penal Code against the van driver Mohite after the incident in ATM cash robbery case. The teams were formed to search for the alleged accused.
However, two days later the stolen van was found abandoned at Kalyan phata, near Mumbra. Significantly, police found Rs 2,33,60,000 still in it. Police seized the van. The cost of the vehicle worth Rs 5 lakh.
Police traced the driver Mohite. During his interrogation, police came to know that the main accused Aru had fled with the stolen cash to Ahmednagar.
A police team rushed there and arrested the main accused and his other associate, Gaikwad. Police has recovered Rs 1,88,19,100 in different denomination from them.
Police has also recovered cash of Rs 41,000 from one of the Aru’s relatives. He had given him the money for the Diwali festival. However, the relative did not know anything about the robbery. Police has not arrested him.
Total Recovery
Police recovered a total of Rs 4,22,20,100 worth cash, mobile (OPPO A15) and Cash van of Tata Company make (Registration No. MH-43-BP-4976, Rs. 5 lakh) and bike (Royal Enfield 350CC, MH-48-DC-7391) used in the whole process.
