An 11-year-old minor girl died in a freak accident by hanging while playing with her younger sibling at her flat in Mira Road on Thursday night.
“The incident took place late on Thursday night. The girl was playing at her home at Kashimira area of Mira Road with her younger sibling,” said Sanjay Hazare, Inspector, Kashimira Police Station.
“While playing, the girl climbed on an empty gas cylinder and her dupatta got entangled on a rod from the ceiling. The victim lost her balance on the cylinder, which slipped and she was left hanging from the neck,” he said.
Her siblings called the mother who was in another room. Her father, a security guard, was at work. “Mother immediately alerted others and rushed her to the hospital with the help of the neighbour. However, she was declared dead on arrival,” Hazare added.
The Kashimira police have registered a case of accidental death based on preliminary reports and parents’ statements. However, police said the body has sent for post-mortem to know the exact cause of death.
Significantly, parents should not leave their children alone while they play to avoid such type of a freak accident. -with inputs from agencies
