The Anti-Corruption Bureau(ACB) of Thane Rural Police has caught an employee of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) along with a private person for taking bribe for fitting a new pipeline in the society. According to the sources, the employee works as a plumber in the water supply department of MBMC. A case has been registered against the duo at Navghar Police Station.
The private person appears to be the plumber’s son-in-law. The complainant is the president of the Chandra Co-operative Housing Society, where the accused has asked the Chai-paani. The complainant had received information that the municipality is giving extra pipeline to relieve the present water scarcity.
Accordingly, the corporation had sent a notice to the society about the payment of Rs. 1500 for three pipelines. The society paid the money to the municipality and then fitter Royan Periyan (52) of the municipal water supply department was contacted by the society’s president. However, Periyan demanded a bribe of Rs. 8,500 and said without paying the amount, work will not be done.
After plumber’s this attitude, the president of the society complained at the Anti- Corruption Bureau unit of the Thane Rural Police. Accordingly, the ACB initiated a process to apprehend the plumber red-handed.
An earlier investigation turned out to be a bribe case. After that, the ACB set a trap in the vicinity of the Chandra Society. Then, the complainant asked Periyan to come to society for money.
The plumber came there with other man and introduces him as his son-in-law and said he owes me money. Accordingly, after accepting bribe money from the complainant, Royan Periyan and his son-in-law Babu Rajendran (25) were caught by the ACB officials.
The ACB has produced them in court where Judge has sent them to one-day police custody. Babu seems to be a contractor and further investigation is going on.
