A passenger luxury bus travelling from Ahmedabad to Pune through Ghodbunder was abruptly burnt near Tollnaka on Ghodbunder Road at around 7 am on Friday. The passenger and the driver successfully rescued all the passengers from the vehicle.
A luxury bus carrying passengers from Gujarat was heading towards Pune via Ghodbundar near Versova when it catches fire.
One of the rear tyres of the bus first caught fire. Then, the fire spread to the rest of the running bus. An auto driver, who eyewitnesses the burning tyre, overtook the bus and alerted the driver. The driver informed the sleeping conductor. Then, they both alerted the deep sleeping passengers.
The fire spread all over the bus. Luckily, all the 25 passengers and crew members had alighted on time, said the official from the Kashimira Police Station. However, the entire luggage compartment has gutted in the fire and passengers are likely to have their belongings burned.
“As soon as the fire broke out, a fireteam of Mira-Bhayandar Municipality rushed to the spot. They extinguished the fire in 40 minutes. Almost, all the parts of the bus burnt,” said Fire Chief Chhotu Adival.
A huge morning traffic jam happened in the area due to the fire. Later, it was cleared, said a Kashimira police official.
