When an Anti-encroachment Squad from the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) was taking action on an illegal slum mushroomed in Kashimira, for their surprised they discovered an illegally packed water bottle plant operating from the cluster on Friday.
When our Anti-Encroachment Squad led by ward officer Swapnil Sawant had gone to demolish the illegal huts which mushroomed at Dachkulpada area of Kashimira, we discovered an illegal factory of packed water operating in the area,” said Ajit Muthe, Deputy Commissioner, MBMC.
Surprisingly, they sourced the water directly from a bore-well through motored water-pumped and collected into black plastic tanks. “Later, the collected water transferred into 20-litre bottles and sold as packaged drinking water. They were not doing any type of scientific treatment to purify the water,” said Muthe.
However, MBMC has informed the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Thane about the unauthorized plant. However, Kashimira police has booked two persons identified as Govind Vishwakarma and Imtiyaz Sayyed alias Immu under the MRTP Act, 1966 for constructing illegal structures. “We have demolished the illegal structures mushrooming in the area of Dachkulpada,” said Ajit Muthe.
After legally informing the FDA, the food vigilant team will book the owner and operators of unauthorized packed water bottle plant.
Yet again, the incident has exposed that no virtual mechanism in place to keep a tab on such illegal plants. Neither they are acquiring any type of licenses nor do such illegal plants maintain cleanliness. You forget the testing rules, thus risking the lives of people who consume this water. Please consider once before ordering such label-less packed water bottles.
