A huge explosion was heard near Maxus Mall in Bhayandar. The explosion has damaged many shops, malls and windowpane of some residential apartments. According to the Thane Rural Police, the explosion happened due to the gas leakage. However, they are confused over the blast is cylindrical or compressor blast. The walls of the mall and shops have also broken due to a loud explosion. It is reported that one person was injured in the blast.
The police are yet to probe the cause of the blast, but preliminary investigation suggests that it was a cylinder or compressor explosion.
Unfortunately, a watchman of the Vishal Building of the locality sustained minor injuries in the incident that took place around 1.30 am, Police said in a release.
Police suspect it to be a cylinder or compressor blast at the Shop No. 10 of the Vishal Building, but a probe was on to ascertain the exact cause.
Several glass panels of the Maxus Mall and adjacent buildings were broken and a couple of cars parked nearby also suffered damages, Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s Fire Brigade Officer Alpesh Sankhe said.
On hearing the loud blast, those residing in the area panicked and came out of their houses. Nevertheless, it was not an LPG cylinder blast, confirmed the officer.
“We are trying to find out what caused the explosion. There was no blaze after the blast, but two fire engines were sent to the spot,” Sankhe added. “On getting information about the explosion, a bomb detection and disposal squad was also rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off, a police official said.

Under the guidance of Dr. Shivaji Rathod, Superintendent of Thane Rural Police, Assistant Police Inspector Kamble of Bhayandar Police Station is investigating the case. A case 01/2020 has been registered at the Bhayandar Police Station.
