Kashimira Police has arrested Kesarinath Mhatre, father of a BJP corporator Sachin Mhatre from Ward No. 14 in a land fraud to four people for Rs. 3.42 crores, even though he did not own it. Thane Sessions Court has remanded Mhatre in police custody till March 17.
Satyendra Vishwakarma, a builder and developer from Mulund, Rajesh Chopra and Bharat Dua started a construction company called Satyadeep Realtors Pvt. Ltd. In August 2015, Kesrinath Mhatre showed CTS No. 2 (Property No 66) which is 4758 sq.m near his model school to Vishwakarma. He said that this space belongs to him and he wanted to sell it. The land has not been in his name but has submitted the documents to Talathi for registration. The land will soon be transferred in his name, said the complainant in his complaint.
However, in 2017, Kesarinath himself told Vishwakarma to take back his Rs 70 lakh and cancel the agreement they made. Accordingly, the agreement was cancelled and Kesarinath made a cheque of Rs 1.10 crores with interest and handed it over to Vishwakarma. In a new agreement, the clause was that if the cheque was not cashed then he will pay Rs. 5 lakhs per month as an interest to the developer. However, neither Vishwakarma has deposited the cheque in the bank nor has Kesarinath paid him back anything, stated in the complaint.
Vishwakarma then complained to the MBVV Police Commissioner Sadanand Date. Meanwhile, during an investigation, it came to light that the accused had cheated three others with the same modus operandi by giving them the same land.
