With 20 COVID-19 cases in three days, Mira-Bhayandar becomes new cause for worry

With 10 more positive coronavirus cases in a day, Mira-Bhayandar has emerged as one of the hotspots for the COVID-19 in Maharashtra. The twin city reported 20 positive cases in the last three days, taking the total tally to 69.

In fact, the 20 new cases have been reported in the last three days. The 10 positive cases that were reported, including five people from Shiv Sena Galli in which two are minors with 8 and 11 year olds. They are the close contact of old positive patients. However, one new COVID-19 patient found from Uttan. This is first patient from the remote area of Bhayandar, where fishers stay.  She is 37 years old, resident of Motha Gaon in Uttan.   

The MBMC official informed that the lady does not have a travel history or any close contact with other positive cases. While two cases have been reported from Mira Road’s Mangal Nagar; one each positive found in Sai Baba Nagar and posh Poonam Sagar area.   

The spike in the number of positive cases in Mira Bhayandar has become a cause of concern for the MBMC and the District Administration as these positive patients came in contact with hundreds of people before they fell sick.

Commissioner Chandrakant Dange had turned areas into containment zones to stem the spread of the coronavirus. Motha Goan was declared 17th containment zone on Saturday.

He said that the corporation has traced the contacts of the female as early as possible.

“Despite the spike in cases, the situation is still under control. We have identified contacts of the positive patients and quarantined them,” said Dange.

New App to curb gathering

MBMC has launched a new mobile app for ‘home delivery’ on Friday to curbs the gathering and maintaining the social distancing.  

Mr Dange has used several tactics to control the spread of pandemic effect in this municipal corporation. However, it doesn’t seem too effective to curb the rising cases of COVID-19 patients.

Corona Virus Update

With 52 persons have been identified and quarantine on Saturday, a total number of quarantined reached to 1171. In which, 378 people had completed 14 days compulsory quarantine period. However, there are still 793 people under the observation of the administration. In which, 540 are under home quarantine and 166 people are in quarantine cell.

There are 79 patients in the isolation ward under MBMC. Sixty-nine are in Pandit Bhimsen Joshi COVID Hospital, two are in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, two in Seven Hills Hospital whereas one is admitted at Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Center at Jogeshwari. Whereas, five patients are in admitted in different hospital of Mumbai and Vasai-Virar area.

Out of total 400 swabs sent for investigation, 69 are positive, 205 results are negative whereas 117 reports are still awaited. However, with some doubt, nine swabs are resent to repeat the test. Two patients died due to COVID-19 and six patients are recovered in the area. There are 61 active coronavirus cases in Mira Bhayandar.
