Shocking: Second death in Mira Bhayandar; seven new positives in a day

A 75-year-old woman died of the novel coronavirus, taking the number of COVID-19 deaths in Mira Bhayandar to two, the official release said on Thursday. She become the second death in Mira Bhayandar due to the deadly virus. The condition of the woman was ‘extremely critical’ and she was declared dead at 11:30 am on Wednesday at Thane Civil Hospital. The total number of coronavirus cases in the twin city climbed to 29 after seven positive cases surface on Thursday.

The 75-year-old senior citizen was in the isolation centre on the first floor of the Tembha Hospital with her family after one of her sons was found positive. On Tuesday night, her condition was deteriorated and was shifted to Thane Civil Hospital on Wednesday 6:30 am. However, the doctor declared her dead at 11:30 am. X-ray report confirmed the presence of coronavirus in her lungs. However, officials were waiting for a report from Kasturba Hospital to declare her COVID-19 patient.

She was having a history of hypertension and diabetic Mellitus. However, the cause of her death mention is bilateral viral pneumonia which is caused by a coronavirus.

This is the second death in Mira Bhayandar due to Corona Virus after a 50-year-old man from Pooja Nagar died on Tuesday at Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Center Jogeshwari.

The woman, who had underlying health conditions, is thought to have been infected by her son who works as a driver with the airlines to to-and-fro foreign passengers from the airport to hotels and vice versa. He was declared COVID-19 positive on Monday and family members were quarantined in Bhayandar’s Isolation ward.

Buried at Mira Road

The senior citizen was buried on Thursday under the supervision of cleric at qabrastan in Mira Road. Doctors, MBMC staff and police personnel were also present at the time of burial.

People who came in contact with the man are being traced and quarantined.

The woman’s son was “initially asymptomatic but developed a fever and cough after someday”. The family were then screened and brought to the Isolation Ward.

New cases

According to the MBMC officials, there were no positive cases on Wednesday. However, seven new corona infected patients were found in Mira Bhayandar on Thursday including the casualty. Out of these, six are relatives of old patients while one COVID-19 patient found from Naya Nagar is new. The 50-year-old has a travelling history and was recently come from Saudi Arabia. Two males and one female are relatives of a woman found infected earlier at S V Road, Goddev Gaon. In Pooja Nagar, a 74-year-old woman found infected whose relatives died due to Corona Virus on Tuesday.

A 28-year-old female has been found infected at Vinay Nagar, Mira Road. Her 56-year-old mother-in-law has already been declared infected with COVID-19 on April 6. As a result, the number of corona positive cases reached 29 in Mira Bhayandar. However, 53 results are still awaited by the government lab.

Two corona patients were recovered and discharged from the hospitals but are in observation. Two have died. There are still 25 positive cases from the area.
