The example of the lawlessness increasing in the Mira Bhayandar was seen when an anti-encroachment Squad of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation were violently attacked by the land mafia at Mandvi Pada area of Kashimira. The officials were gone there for the demolition drive of illegal chawl. A case has been registered at Kashimira Police Station in this regard. Police have arrested six people in the case.
Chandrakant Dange, a newly designated Commissioner of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, has taken a tough stand on unauthorized construction of the city after taking office. As per the sources, commissioner orders to carry out demolition on illegal construction on a daily basis and put control on the land mafia. Under this drive, Chandrakant Borse, the Divisional Officer of Prabhag No 6, along with the Corporation’s employees, security guards and police personnel had gone to Mandavi Pada to demolish the structure.
They demolished 20 paved houses built by Govind Vishwakarma and Bablu Pandey at Survey No 87/4. After demolishing these houses, they turned their battalion to the unauthorized construction of Survey No.24/25. “As soon as we reached the spot with JCB machine, the mafia started hurling stones at us,” said Borse.
Staff escaped on time. However, JCB suffered losses. In connection with this, a case has been registered against the mafia at the Kashmirira Police Station.
Who is responsible for the illegal structure
Unauthorized construction is being done on hundreds of acres of land in Government as well as tribal and non-development area’s land. However, people say that this is not possible without the collaboration of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation officials. The Public Works Department is providing DP roads, drains, toilets and other facilities in the area. After several complaints were made by the corporators about the unauthorized construction, the Anti-Encroachment Team of MBMC had started action on Tuesday to remove the encroachment on the tribal land. However, on Wednesday, demolition drive was again taken place and the officer said they have completely destroyed the illegal structure.
“A case has been registered under section 353 of the IPC against the miscreants Baby Kamlakar Jadhav and others for assault and criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duty.” confirmed an officer.
However, police informed that six people have been arrested in the case.
