Extend shops timing by 10 pm, MNS warned self-immolation

Between 150 and 200 new COVID-19, positive cases are surfacing in Mira-Bhayandar every day. About 5 to 6 people are dying daily due to this disease. Despite this, intending to bring the economy back on track, the demand has raised to extend the business timing for shops in the twin city.

Traders are demanding to extend the shops timing in Mira-Bhayandar from 9 am to 10 pm, which is from 7 pm at present. In this context, BJP Corporator Ravi Vyas has submitted a letter to Mayor Jyotsna Hasnale on Monday. At the same time, Sandeep Rane, MNS President from Mira Bhayandar has warned the commissioner MBMC Dr Vijay Rathod to decide on shops extended timing within 10 days. He said, “If MBMC commissioner will not decide within 10 days then on 11th day I will self-immolate outside the MBMC headquarters.”

Rane has also demanded to extend the shops timing till 10 pm.

The lockdown has been in place for six months. However, Mira Bhayandar was in complete lockdown for four months. “This has broken the spine of many traders. The perishable products of many traders have expired. Shops are opened now, but there is no customers, no profit as expected. The time constraints imposed by the administration have created dissatisfaction in the business community,” said Rane.

Not Certainly

However, owing to the rise in Covid-19 cases, the civic administration is not sure whether to offer relaxations or stick to the current time-table. Notably, the recent incident in which some civic personnel and private bouncers were found to be forcefully downing shutters and slapping fines on shopkeepers allegedly under the influence of alcohol has triggered anger amongst the local business community.

“Certainly, this is a concern for MBMC and this figure should come down somehow. On this, apart from the government, it is also the responsibility of the general public that they should follow social distancing, as well as compulsorily wear masks,” said the official.
