“Done duty during Covid era despite pregnancy, but not paid salary by MBMC since year”

Lady Doctor working as an Ophthalmologist took help of social media to shares her grievances, alleges that MBMC has not paid her since one year despite of she performed her duty risking her and unborn baby’s life.

Doctors, nurses, police and other government officials worked tirelessly day and night to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the shocking fact came to light that some of these doctors had not been paid for a year. A female doctor herself has shared her experience on social media. Many questions are being raised after Dr Granthali Pawar Walke, who works as an Ophthalmologist at civic runs Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital.

Dr. Pawar first tweeted on February 22 tagging to PMO and other leaders like Jitendra Awhad, Rajan Vichare, Pratap Sarnaik, Aditya Thackeray and  Health Minister Rajesh Tope, “Government employees have been working without pay for one year. I am Dr. Granthali Pawar working at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital Mira Bhayander. I have been working without pay for over a year due to administrative delay.”

While tweeting this, Dr. Granthali also tagged several political leaders. However, MBMC has not paid her due salary. She then retweeted on March 15, 2022. In this tweet, she said, “I worked during the Covid period when I was pregnant and despite having diabetes.” I risked my life and the life of my baby. I appeal to the state government to give me my appointment letter and start my salary.

However, neither the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation nor the state government could respond to Dr.Granthali’s tweet.

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital is under the jurisdiction of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation. Recently, MBMC has announced the budget of Rs 2200 crores. Significantly, State government has allocated funds of Rs 943 for the several infrastructure development in MBMC. In the budget, special funds have been sanctioned by Finance Minister Ajit Patil for oxygen machine and ventilator in Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital. So will this doctor’s salary be paid now? Such a question arises here.
