COVID-19 Positive Cases Cross 5200-Mark, Death Tally Reaches 180

Mira Bhayandar gasped as 213 COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday with two succumbed to coronavirus infection. The highest number of cases in a day was 303 recorded on July 05, while 276 recorded on July 03. The total number of COVID-19 positive cases cross 5200-mark on Friday and now stands at 5206. However, the death tally touches to 180 with two succumbed on Friday.

The statistics related to COVID-19 from Friday made people take notice of the situation for more than one reason. However, strict lockdown further extended till July 18, seeing the positives tally. Besides the number of cases crosses 5200-mark, two more COVID patients succumbed to the virus making the tally reaches 180. Since May 23 daily COVID deaths have been reported except on May 28 and July 01 in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) jurisdiction. The highest death reported on June 3, when eight succumbed to the novel coronavirus infection. Since May 23, Mira Bhayandar has seen about 168 deaths of the coronavirus patients.   

Officials confirmed that the cumulative number of active cases, discharged and deaths add up to 5206. Though positive cases cross 5200-mark, the state government details in the bulletin give another number of 5361. It means COVID-19 positive cases have crossed 5350-mark and there are differences of 155 cases between Municipal Corporation data versus State government data. According to official information on Covid-19 tests, the MBMC had conducted 15624 swab tests till Friday. Among these, 9528 people tested negative while 890 people reports are still awaited.

Out of 5206 cases are detected, 1224 are active cases, while 3802 were discharged and 180 have died.

Recovery and death rate

The recovered rate of Mira Bhayandar is 73.035 highest among the state and Thane district average of 55.18% and 41.63%. However, the report is worrisome about the death rate in the twin city. While the state and Thane district death rates are 4.19 and 2.70% whereas Mira Bhayandar recorded 3.45%.    

Friday’s report

Two hundred and thirteen new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Mira-Bhayandar. However, 173 people have been recovered from COVID-19, which is the third-highest discharged in a day after 176 and 184. On June 27, 184 people had been discharged after completely recovering. Of the 213 cases detected on Friday, 69 are new cases while 144 are a close contact of earlier detected positive patients.

The youngest among Friday’s cases was a 1-year-old boy from Vimal Dairy area in Bhayandar (East) who has newly contracted the infection in the family and tracing is under search The oldest among them was an 87-year-old woman residing near Maxus Malls in Bhayandar (West). She was infected with her close contact, which was earlier detected positive with the COVID-19 disease.
