After a delegation of Shiv Sena leaders led by legislators- Pratap Sarnaik and Geeta Jain threatened to launch an agitation against the MBMC commissioner Mr Dilip Dhole at his office premises for his inaction against mushrooming illegal dance bars, and lodges in the twin-city. The anti-encroachment squad led by Additional Commissioner Maruti Gaikwad launched a massive drive to demolished illegal bars, lodges on Friday.
Rockstar and Madness, two ladies’ dance bars and Hotel Stay INN, a lodge were demolished with the help of bulldozers on the National Highway in Kashimira. With a tight police bandobast led by ACP Vilas Sanap, these activities have happened.
“The action will continue until all such illegal establishments are weeded out from the twin-city,” said Gaikwad.
However, 10 bars and lodges were on the radar for the day. The media has witnessed that only these three establishments were demolished whereas others were postponed for the day.
Shiv Sena MLA Sarnaik has warned the MBMC chief to take action within 10 days. However, Gaikwad’s bulldozers started the working very next day. Sarnaik alleged that the illegalities including prostitution rackets running from such dingy establishments were being protected by the BJP rulers.
However, the hoteliers alleged the pick-and-choose policy adopted by the civic administration while claiming that the local hotel industry had been made a scapegoat in the ongoing tug-of-war between the BJP and Shiv Sena leaders.
