31 doctors tested positive for Coronavirus in Mira Bhayandar, one died

So far, 31 doctors from private and government hospitals have tested positive for Coronavirus in Mira Bhayandar. However, one doctor has succumbed to Coronavirus infection up to date in the twin city. Apart from doctors, 152 healthcare workers including nurses, technicians and ward boys engaged in various government and private hospitals in MBMC jurisdiction have tested positive. One healthcare worker has also died due to the infection.

On Tuesday, two staffs of the hospital have been tested positive for coronavirus. One is a peon whereas other is a clerk. Both of them have been admitted in the hospital. Out of 31 doctors tested positive for Coronavirus, 23 have been recovered completely and resumed their works in respective clinics and hospitals.

“Several lab staffers, nurses and paramedics have also tested positive. Doctors and staff require more protective gear. We are also hearing several doctors of private hospitals testing positive and they are being treated at the hospitals where they work,’’ said the sources.

“Out of 152 healthcare workers, 90 have been recovered. They are either in precautionary quarantine at home or back to help the public in their respective hospitals,” said the sources from the MBMC’s Health Department.  

Earlier, eleven healthcare employees of civic-run Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Maternity Hospital have been infected with coronavirus infection. They have been hospitalized at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Covid-19 Hospital in Bhayandar. However, they have been recovered and resumed their duties. Lack of proper measures and inadequate materials have increased the risk of infection to these healthcare employees.

Cases in Mira Bhayandar

The Mira Bhayandar continued to witness a spike in the COVID-19 positives. On Tuesday 162 people tested positive for the virus and 4 people succumbed to the infection. However, 176 patients have been recovered.

With Tuesday’s figures, the cumulative positive cases in MBMC has gone up to 4,633, the death toll has climbed to 172. The Municipal Corporation had collected 14,155 swab samples for testing of which 9090 cases are negative. However, reports of 432 swabs sent are still pending. While 3,390 patients have recovered so far.

A 955-bed hospital has been set up at Dahisar Check Naka in collaboration with Mumbai Metro on Tuesday. There is 108-bed ICU has been set up in this facility for COVID-19 positives. As the twin city has more than 4400 cases of Coronavirus infection, 200 beds of this hospital have been made available to Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC).
