Shiv Sena Spokesperson and MLA from Ovala-Majiwada Pratap Sarnaik, whose residence and offices were raided by Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday, has self-quarantine citing Covid-19 rules. He was out of Thane district for sometimes.
Sarnaik was in Goa when Enforcement Directorate raided his residence and office on Tuesday. ED has summoned him and his son on Wednesday to appear before them for questioning. However, he has asked the agency for a week to help them in the investigation. Nevertheless, his son Vihang Sarnaik’s — whom ED has detained for four hours — wife has been hospitalised due to hypertension.
Sarnaik has told the agency that he and Vihang cannot join the investigation for a week. They will appear before the agency once he is out of quarantine, the sources said.
In connection with the ECIR, ED conducted searches at Sarnaik’s residence in Hiranandani Estate at Thane, his old residence at Samta Nagar, his son Vihang’s residence at Vasant Lawns, and offices at Vartak Nagar and Dev Corpora in Thane. During the searches, the agency seized electronic evidence including a computer and Vihang Sarnaik’s cell phone.
ED has brought Vihang to its office after the raid and questioned him for over four hours. ED officials on Tuesday issued summons to Sarnaik and Vihang asking them to be present before the agency on Wednesday.
Sources stated that the ED interrogated Vihang Sarnaik about alleged transactions from foreign locations and their trail. As per sources, the agency was probing a case linked to a security company named TOPS Group.
Quarantine Raut too: Kirit Somaiya
Senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya said that if Sarnaik can quarantine self, then the people he met should also be quarantined. These include MP Sanjay Raut and MLA Sunil Raut. BMC itself should take action to quarantine all these people.
