Once again, Mira Bhayandar Health Department’s mismanagement came to the fore. The members of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) staged an agitation at the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) headquarters on Tuesday, alleging that fake COVID-19 reports of the suspected patients given to them.
Mahesh Varudkar, Additional Commissioner, MBMC tried to calm down the protester. However, MNS activists were not in a mood to listen. Protestors, while meeting with Varudkar, left their chair and sat on the ground for half an hour in the Additional Commissioner’s office. MNS also alleges that several complaints from COVID-19 patients have been pouring in. However, the administration has done nothing to solve those problems.
What’s the matter
On July 06, the MBMC’s Health Department has conducted COVID tests on three families of Hemraj Society, Building No. 22 in Green Village at Mira Road. Each family constitute of five members. On July 8, the administration said that the medical report of three people in each flat was positive. A member of the flat told the administration, “We suspect the reports as we have no symptoms. So, we will test at a private laboratory at our own expense. After the reports come then we will decide what to do.”
Health Department agreed on that with the term that they have to be quarantined till further step.
On July 08, the family members were admitted to the COVID Care Center for treatment. However, one family underwent COVID test on July 9 from the private Laboratory in Mumbai. On July 10, some members received a negative report. After that, all these family members gave detailed information to the MNS workers in Mira Bhayandar. On Tuesday, the MNS reached the MBMC headquarters and asked the Additional Commissioner about the goof-up. With no satisfactory answer, they sat in his office to protest.
What they say
MNS leader Sandeep Rane said, “The citizens are becoming more mentally ill due to lockdown. However, these types of wrong reports are adding more on it. Harassment will not be tolerated.”
Rane warned that if the administration does not take serious action against the fake COVID-19 reports then MNS will launch agitation against the MBMC.
The family members were then discharged on Tuesday. “We will inquire into the matter and submit a report in the next three days,” said Mahesh Varudkar, on the goof-up.
