The Home Minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh has changed his Display Picture(DP) to the Maharashtra Police logo to honour them for their contribution to the war against Coronavirus. He had tweeted asking everyone to join this endeavour in solidarity. Responding to his appeal, many famous personalities have changed their DPs to the Maharashtra Police logo. Even, many have responded with solidarity messages too.
Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has offered his deepest condolences on the demise of ASI Sunil Dattatray Kalgutkar of Kurla’s Vinoba Bhave Nagar Police Station – who succumbed to the Coronavirus infection. Kalgutkar’s death makes the tally of Maharashtra Police personnel who have succumbed to COVID-19 to six while as many as 648 have tested positive. Deshmukh said: “It is exemplary that the entire 2.25 lakh strong police force is working for long hours through what is one of the biggest public health challenges we are facing.”
He further said, “I want to affirm that in difficult times, the efficiency of police has doubled. We must boost the morale of the police force by encouraging them.”
He highlighted that; Maharashtra Police had always gone out of its way to help citizens. He said, “Whether it was the 26/11 terror attack or the 2005 flood which drowned Mumbai, Maharashtra police has always risked their life and limb to help citizens.
This has come to the fore again; Police personnel stood like a wall between citizens and corona like frontline COVID warriors. They maintain law and order even in high-containment areas. He pointed out and said, “I decided to honour the selflessness of police personnel by putting up the Maharashtra Police logo as my DP on WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. I asked citizens to join me honouring the police force.”

The appeal has met with a tremendous response from the length and breadth of the state and many citizens changed their DPs immediately. This includes grassroots activists, homemakers, collegians, political activists, corporate captains, sportspersons and well-known celebs.
