Giving a big relief to ladies in Mumbai and MMR, the state government on Friday allowed women to travel in suburbs local trains from Saturday. An order issued by the Secretary of Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation department stated that ladies have been allowed to board local trains during two-time slots during the day.
In a notification, the Maharashtra government wrote to railway administration to allow the ladies to travel in local trains. It asked from Saturday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM onwards.
“It is requested that local train services made available to all ladies from 11 AM to 3 PM and against from 7 PM onwards till end of local services for the day, with effect from 17th October 2020 in Mumbai and MMR region,” the notification signed by Secretary Kishor Raje Nimbalkar (Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation).
The order is valid for both Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Ladies holding valid tickets can use local train services.
“During the said period, entry to all ladies having valid tickets will be given. It allows all emergency staff as well. A requirement of QR codes for ladies travelling during the said time is mandatory,” the order read.
The order reiterated that earlier permission given to emergency services staff will continue to remain valid for the entire day.
“Currently, the local train services to all the personnel notified as emergency services shall continue,” the order added.
Metro and mono allowed
The Secretary further instructed concerned authorities to increase the frequency of local trains to meet the increased demand.
On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government allowed metro and monorail services to operate for general passengers under ‘Mission Begin Again’. The metro administration informed that it will start its operation from October 19. While the monorail will be back on track from October 18.
