In a significant action against flourishing incidents of mobile theft, the Kashimira Police has arrested one youth from the Kashigaon Church slum allegedly for mobile thefts and recovered 19 mobiles worth Rs 1,70,500 from him.
According to police sources, under the supervision of DCP Amit Kale, ACP Vilas Sanap and Senior PI Sanjay Hazare, the Crime Detection Squad comprises of API Mahendra Bhamre, PSI Dhananjay Gaikwad, Police Naik Suresh Shinde, Constables Paresh Patil, Santosh Tayde, Sudhir Khot, Swapnil Mohile, Sharad Nalawade and Sandeep Patil detected the case. They were on patrolling duty on Sunday night when they found the youth in the suspicious state.
Subsequently, cops surrounded him and sought an explanation of roaming around at this time of the hour. However, when Sunil Mohan Singh (20) failed to provide any concrete answers, cops rounded him at Kashimira Police Station. Singh resides at Baccha Bhai Chawl, Kashigaon Church Slum, Kashigaon in Kashimira area.
During the interrogation, the Singh revealed that he steal mobile phones. Based on which cops arrested the accused under Section 379 of the IPC. Further probe is underway.
The police recovered 19 mobile phones of various companies worth about Rs 1,70,500 from their possession. The phones worth between Rs 5,500 – 18,000.
“He has a unique modus operandi. When the driver stopped the vehicle at a Dhaba or restaurant along the National Highway the accused divert his attention and take the phone from the dashboard and fled away,” said Sanjay Hazare, Sr. PI Kashimira Police Station.
Following a complaint, the police registered a case and when the police verified the CCTV footages, the notorious thief was traced.
