Police arrest one in Mira Road Double Murder Case; Accused served jail for two murders earlier

The Thane Rural Police has claimed that it has solved the double murder case within 12 hours of the incident after arresting a 35-year-old staff from Swargate in Pune on Friday evening. On Thursday night, decomposed bodies of the two staff of Shabari Resto-Bar were found inside the water tank of the hotel.

In a video message, Dr Shivaji Rathod, Superintendent, Thane Rural Police said, “Kallu Jadhav (35) who also worked at the same hotel has been arrested from Pune. He left the hotel on June 1 for his native village. However, we arrested him from Pune with the help of mobile surveillance, which he took away with him of the victim.”

Yadav originally hails from Dohrighat, Mau in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav had a confrontation with the victims on being served dal and rice every day. “Manager Haresh Shetty ordered food from outside, while he was being made to eat dal and rice cooked by him,” said SP, Thane Rural.

To take revenge

Yadav told the police that he was beaten up by the victims when he objected to them ordering food from outside. “Before the incident, all of them set together and had liquor. While both the victims slept, he axed them to take revenge till death. He attacked them on their head, neck and face. He then dumped the bodies in the water tank to disposed of the evidence and ran away,” said Dr Rathod.

“We had formed a different team to trace him and one of it successfully chased him in Pune and arrested him,” informed Dr Rathod.

Dr Rathod said, “He is a history-sheeter and owner of the restaurant has not verified with the police before recruiting him. Yadav had served jail term in two murder cases of a watchman in Kolkata. Cases of assault are also registered against him in Pune.

The dead bodies were discovered from the tank of a Shabari Resto-Bar which is located on MTNL Road. They have been identified as Naresh Pandit (42) as a cleaner while Haresh Shetty(48) working as a manager in the restaurant. The bodies also had stab wounds. Fire Brigade officials fished out the bodies from the 10,000-litre tank. 

A case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in the double murder case.
