The notorious house-breaker Shrikant Keshav Vakode was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Thane Sessions Court’s District Judge R.V Tamhanekar after he was found guilty for his involvement in the crime.
The court has sentenced Vokade(32) seven years of imprisonment and Rs 5000 fine. He robbed and assaulting a 60-year-old resident of Ramdev Park, Mira Road woman after breaking into her apartment. The incident took place about two years ago, on March 10, 2018.
“Victim’s son shocked after he returned from the work, and found the household articles scattered on the floor. He found his mother bleeding profusely. She told him that a man had entered the home through the window of their bathroom. He cuts the grill with a blade,” said Sandhya Mhatre, Additional Public Prosecutor.
“When the victim confronted the intruder, he hit her on her head with a hammer. Thereafter, he took away Rs 1,000 cash, four debit cards, a mobile phone. He escaped through the same window,” she added.
Police arrested Vakode Based on the CCTV camera footage installed in the society. A police team led by the then SDPO Atul Kulkarni captured him. The notorious house-breaker was held after five days of the incident from the de-addiction centre in Uttan. He was hiding there. During the investigation, it came to light that the man had attempted two more robbery in the same housing society.
Supported by strong evidence to nail the culprit, the investigating team filed a watertight charge-sheet in the court. The court held him guilty under IPC sections 394 (robbery), 397 (robbery with grievous hurt) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).
