Finally, after showing doldrums for six days, Kashimira Police has registered a case against 39 Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers from Mira Bhayandar unit for assaulting and abusing a Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s (MBMC) ward officer. An FIR include names of four MNS office bearers as the main accused along with 35 unidentified persons.
Prakash Kulkarni, a ward officer of MBMC’s Ward No. 6, has beaten by MNS workers on Sunday afternoon. The video of the incident shown on Facebook Live by the workers. Later, the video has gone viral in the vicinity. Workers of the Raj Thackeray-led party had alleged that the officers were consuming alcohol in the cabin. However, they alleged that the officers include the retired Dadasaheb Khetre and Sudam Godse thrown the bottles from the window after seeing them.
Immediately, MBMC commissioner Dr Vijay Rathod had asked to register a case against the miscreants. However, police have not registered a case for six days in the name of investigation. A case has been registered after social activists raised their voices.
Sunil Kadam, Vikas Phalke, Sachin Fofale, Karan and 35 others booked by the Kashimira Police Station.
“Yes, we have booked the MNS workers for assaulting and abusing the government officer. However, we have sought the report from the municipal corporation, whether they tried to hurdle and delay any government’s work. If we received a report from there, then we will add relevant sections in it,” said Sanjay Hazare, Senior Police Inspector, Kashimira Police Station.
Police had sent them for medical examination at the MBMC-runs Indira Gandhi Hospital. Meanwhile, police did not find any liquor bottles at the spot.
