A fake audio clip of Independent MLA from Mira Bhayandar Geeta Jain has gone viral on social media. Police have arrested a BJP woman office-bearer in the case. Significantly, Mrs Jain had complained with Navghar Police Station on July 17 regarding the fake audio clip is being circulated on her name. However, the police have arrested Ranju Jha, a BJP office bearer, and produced her in court.
What exactly is in an audio clip?
The viral audio clip contains misinformation about Coronavirus in the name of the central government. In this clip, it is wrongly mentioned that the central government is giving Rs 1.5 lakh to the Municipal Corporation for each corona positive patient. Nevertheless, the clip also mentions that private doctors, laboratories, health departments are keeping an eye on the growth of positive patients.
The clip also states that a person is being forcibly admitted as a patient despite having a simple cold-fever. In the clip, an appeal is made to stop doing COVID-19 investigation by claiming that this is a big scam. After receiving Rs 1.5 lakh from the central government, the Municipal Corporation send the patient to home. Significantly, this clip has been made viral by mimicking the voice of MLA Geeta Jain.
Police have registered a case under sections 188 (disobedience), 269 (spread of infection) of the Indian Penal Code and also under Maharashtra Covid-19 Rules, Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Epidemic Act, 1897.
Who is accused Ranju Jha?
Police have arrested one Ranju Jha in the case. Ranju Jha is the Vice-President of the BJP’s North Indian Women’s wing, Mira Bhayandar unit. However, the Navghar police arrested her and produced her in court. According to the sources, she has been granted bail from the court.
Reaction of MLA Geeta Jain
Meanwhile, MLA Geeta Jain said that the act of making such a fake audio clip was reprehensible and the intent was malicious. She said action should be taken against the accused, whosoever she might be. “Police should thoroughly investigate the matter. The clip has mentally disturbed me and my family,” said Geeta Jain.
