Thirty police personnel including five officers from the Naya Nagar Police Station at Mira Road tested positive for Covid-19. However, some have been recovered and resumed on their duty.
Police Personnel are considered as the frontline ‘corona warriors’. The prevalence of coronavirus is increasing day by day in Mira Bhayandar. According to sources, 30 policemen of Naya Nagar Police Station in Mira Road have been infected by the COVID-19. In which, 25 police staff and five police officers are included.
However, the good news is that eight police personnel are fully recovered and have returned to work. Some staffs are being treated at different COVID Care Centres and Hospitals, while some have been isolated themselves to home quarantine.
Naya Nagar Police Station has a total capacity of 102 personnel. However, after 30 staff members are contracted with the infection, work burden transferred on the remaining staff. “None of the staff is in critical condition. COVID testing is still underway. Many staffs result is awaited. Most of the police detected under Antigen kit tests and they are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms,” reveal the sources.
One of the sub-inspector who casually went for testing tested positive. “Number may increase after results come. However, one personnel from Bhayandar Police Station also tested positive,” a police official said.
Three LCB officials were infected
Last month, three local crime branch officials were tested positive from Kashimira unit. They seemed to be get infected by accused Kallu Yadav. Kallu Yadav, an accused in the Mira Road double murdered case found positive after he was arrested from Pune. “He is still in quarantine centre, as Central Jail Authority had denied taking him back,” said an officer from the Thane Rural Police.
Succumbs to coronavirus
On June 24, a 56-year-old Senior Traffic cop Anil Pawar attached to Mira-Bhayandar Traffic unit of Thane Rural Police died due to the COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at Andheri hospital.
Pawar was posted as a Senior Police Inspector was attached to the Thane Rural Police (Traffic Department) at Kashimira Traffic unit.
